Leather Care Guide
Your Leather Will Age Beautifully — With a Little Help
Full-grain leather is durable and low-maintenance, but it does benefit from care. Think of it like your skin — a little attention keeps it supple and happy. Neglect it and it becomes dry and brittle. The good news: leather care is simple.
Conditioning Your Leather (Every 3–6 Months)
The oils in leather keep it soft and water-resistant. Over time, especially if the bag gets regular use, those oils deplete. A quality leather conditioner restores them.
How to condition:
- Clean the bag first (see below)
- Apply conditioner sparingly with a soft cloth, working it in with circular motions
- Wipe away excess with a clean cloth
- Let it sit for 15 minutes, then buff to a soft sheen
A good leather conditioner should be made from natural oils — beeswax and mink oil are classics. Avoid silicone-based products and anything that leaves a plastic-y coating.
Cleaning Spots and Stains
Accidents happen. Coffee, wine, dirt, pen marks. Most stains aren't permanent if you act quickly.
Fresh spill: Blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Don't rub — you'll push the liquid deeper into the grain.
Set-in stain: Mix water with a tiny drop of mild soap. Use a soft cloth, dampen it, and gently work the stain. Dry immediately with a clean cloth.
Pen or ink: Isopropyl alcohol on a soft cloth works well. Test on an inconspicuous area first.
Scuff marks: Often buff out with a soft cloth and a little conditioner.
Storage Tips
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Stuff the bag lightly with acid-free paper to help it hold its shape.
- Don't store in plastic — leather needs to breathe. A cloth dust bag is perfect.
- Avoid damp areas. Mildew is leather's enemy.
- Keep away from heaters and direct air conditioning vents.
If It Gets Wet
- Blot excess water with a clean cloth
- Stuff it loosely with dry paper to absorb moisture from inside
- Leave it at room temperature to dry naturally — never near a radiator or in direct sun
- Once dry, apply a little conditioner to restore the oils.
The Beauty of Patina
Your bag is going to age. It's going to develop creases, colour variations, small marks. That's not damage. That's your bag becoming part of your life. Every scuff, every crease, every darkened area tells a story. We think that's beautiful.
